Hacking Hate Speech

Team Lead - Microsoft non-profit hackathon, taking 3rd place out of 484

Organized and lead a hackathon project with the intention of identifying hate speech and hate symbols online. By the end of the hackathon we had a working prototype utilizing Machine Learning and Azure that could identify hate speech as well as other offensive content.

Software Engineer II, Azure Lab Services

Launched Azure Classroom Labs, enabling university professors to create a virtual computer lab removing barriers to entry for students.
Worked in AngularJS to create a frontend experience for students so they would remain separated from the Azure portal, simplifying the onboarding process. This provided customers without Azure accounts the ability to work with Azure resources which had been assigned to them.
Designed and implemented production resource monitoring to better alert engineers when issues arise.
Completed on-call rotations supporting current production systems.

Software Engineer II, SQL IaaS VM on Azure

Decreased manual engineering effort required to create and deliver Azure virtual machines by automating image creation processes. This enabled delivery of an increased number of offerings, and has enabled the SQL VM team to keep their offerings up-to-date with the newest Windows and SQL patches.
Utilize existing telemetry pipelines to create dashboards exposing root causes behind key performance indicators, and through this visibility the team brought virtual machine deployment success from 70% to 96%.
Design and implement improved SQL VM experience in the Azure Portal, allowing customers to update SQL settings in parallel rather than requiring multiple deployments.
